Washington has rich resources that position our state for continued economic success in the 21^st century – a prime geographic location, vibrant industries and renowned educational, research and cultural institutions.

 

Spokane and the Inland Northwest region compete with other major economic hubs to attract top talent. To remain economically viable, cities and states must demonstrate a commitment to creating an open, healthy and equitable environment in which to live and work – one that reflects the needs and expectations of a diverse workforce.

 

The majority of Fortune 500 employers have adopted non-discrimination policies that include sexual orientation and extended domestic partner benefits long before most cities and states passed them into law. These policies not only work to retain quality employees, but also to improve productivity. Employees can now focus more on their work instead of worrying about their and their spouse’s benefits and safety. Most of these corporations are also corporate partners of the National Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce of which INBA is an affiliate chamber.

 

On February 13, 2012, Governor Gregoire signed Washington State’s historic Marriage Equality Law after bipartisan votes of approval in the legislature.

 

As the Inland Northwest’s LGBT business chamber, we support the benefits the new Marriage Equality law brings to a majority of our members and the economic impact it will bring to our region. Should the new law be put to a vote of the people this November as Referendum 74, Inland Northwest Business Alliance would support a yes vote for its passage.
